Chipping Sparrow

Taken August 28th at the same place as the chickadees I've been posting. I posted a different image of this same bird on the discussion forum to get an ID. The consensus seemed to be a winter plumage Chipping Sparrow-it has been an odd summer around here.

7D, 500mm f4 + 1.4TC, Black widow on Gitzo legs, f7.1, 1/400, iso 500, Av mode, no compensation, normal processing in CS4,. This is cropped to 18% of the original, but I think it held up adequately for web presentation.

I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.

Thanks for looking,

It looks good considering the large crop.

Looks very, very fine for web purposes Dennis. Wonderful work. I feel the only improvement could be more space on the left since that is the direction in which the bird is looking.

very nice pose and it does look very good for the crop. I agree that a little more room on the left would look nice.

HI Dennis: Nice capture of this little guy. I really like the pose and head turn. Perch is great. most of the bg works, but the OOF curved branch in the ULC really grabs my eyes. The whites in the chest have detail. I'm guessing the image would be even better if the chest was burned down just a little bit.

I like the personality that comes through with the head turn. Good sharpness on the bird and I like the habitat. Might be improved if he were positioned a bit to the right.

Dennis,
I really like the head turn and the setting too. I agree with others about more room on the left. Beautiful shot. :toast:

A great shot Dennis and this looks good for 18% of FF. I agree with others about positioning the bird more right in the frame if possible and bringing down the brightest areas of plumage just a bit. Neat shot.

Dennis, I agree with the comp nit but otherwise it looks good to me, esp for the size of the crop.

I think it looks good and I like the job you did on the detail of the whites which isn't easy to do...

It certainly has held up well! Nice pose and shot! Suggestion of the comp is an agreeable one.

I agree about the left needing a bit more room.
The quality is incredible considering the amount of cropping.
Well done.

I like the quizzical pose and warm light. Impressive detail for such a large crop.
