Another Dahlia image from recent shootings. I feel this "up close and personal" approach in some ways mimics the wonderful technique used by Ram in his images. Thanks Ram for the inspiration!

Larger version available,

canon 7D
canon 100mm macro f2.8L Live view mode with manual focusing
F/3.5 -0.5 1/750 ISO 100

Craig, this is certainly a vibrant image.

I like the more subtle left-half of the image very much. The right half looks a little bright on my monitor. What did you expose for?

Keep shooting those Dahlias.

Excellent use of color. He is an inspiration to all of us, isn't he?

Craig: I love the chaos in this and the colors. My only suggestion would be to crop in a bit from the ULC and eliminate the area of dull BG. Well seen and captured. >=))>

Vivid colors Craig. A striking image as posted. I like the image as posted but could also see the crop that Bill suggests or some cloning in the viewer's upper left corner. The textures remind of satin.

Craig, Wonderful rich colors there and a real close-up. One pointer I can give you is to explore forms, shapes, lines when possible (and based on your creativity whatever else you can pursue).

There is one other important thing - that is manipulating the light. I use diffusers and reflectors to do that.

Keep at it and within no time you will begin to get a good feel.

Neat image Craig. Looks like satin. My only suggestion would be to tone down the highlights in the ULC so they would be more in line with the darker tones in the rest of the image.

I love the colours in this, Craig - the yellows and purples complement each other superbly. I do just find the fluid areas and the more solid areas not quite blending somehow - but that's a very subjective response of course. It is an attractive image.

Craig:
Ram is infecting us with the abstract virus and making us go up close to our subjects. Good attempt in this image. Need to balance the lighting between the left and right half of the image. Like the crinkled satin look.

Vibrant color! I think Gary and Ian speak to my thoughts on the image, Craig. It's fun to work close-ups!
