A very cooperative, mostly sleeping juvenile black-crowned night heron. He was sitting down a slope and I couldn't back up, so I settled for this portrait. Bg is frothy water at an inlet at one of the dikes. Bean bag on guard rail.

super detail here Sharon. Can't ask for much more. Iike the comp and BG is perfect for this bird IMO. Very well done.

These are always fun shots because there is so much interesting texture and detail in the head and beak of this species.

Well done.

Great techs, Sharon. That eye demands attention as does the comp.

Awesome portrait. If I wanted to be picky I would have said I wished for the bill tip to be as sharp as the rest. I just love the image!

Excellent portrait, Sharon. The large version has plenty of detail, and I think you could give the smaller one a round of USM. Good work!

Love the detail and your composition Sharon. My first thought looking at this is that I might try reducing overall brightness slightly to see what I think. If it were mine I would try it. Maybe you already have and decided this looked best. Maybe I would too...

Thanks everyone, for your comments. Ron, I did try it a little darker and I like it that way, too. Toning down the white in the bg helped a lot in that effect, but I decided to leave it brighter, as this is how the water was behind him.
I appreciate all of the nice comments and criticism... Sharon
