Wheatears in snow

This is a pair of northern wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) on Fair Isle, Shetland, UK. I took it in May, when there was a very brief snow shower. These two were very approachable as they were being fed with mealworms as part of my research!

Canon 1D Mk3
Canon 300 f/4L IS
Canon 2x TC
Handheld, lying on the ground.

1/100, f/9.0, ISO 400

Thanks for looking, comments and critique welcome.

Nice shot, the streaks of snow add to the image. Thanks for sharing.

I like this as posted. A god sense of time and place; the falling slanted snow adds a lot to the image.

Welcome!

How do you find the 1D and the 300/2x combo?

neat image too by the way, I was almost going to say well done with manual focus, but then saw the 1D bit.

The falling snow flakes certainly add a lot of interest to an already appealing image.

Lots to like here - the two birds, the singing and the snow. Interesting and well done.

Thanks for the generous comments, appreciated. I found the 300 f/4 and 2x surprisingly sharp and useable (bit slow AF of course). It was easier to carry this combo about on my study rounds of the island than the 500 f/4 (I tried once), as I was carrying lots of research gear!

I like the feel of this image Adam. The birds are a bit centered for my taste, but the falling snow flakes behind the birds are nice, so maybe that influenced your comp here.
