Australian Bustard

Australian Bustard photographed at last light in central Queensland a couple of years ago. I instinctively go for tight framing - here's something wider.

Canon 40D, EF500 f/4, beanbag on car window, ISO400, 1/800, f/4, cropped for composition.

The hot lighting creates a monochrome image of great visual impact. I really like the raised head and eye contact.

Great composition, setting and the light makes it almost look as if the grass is on fire.

I love the light! Last light of the day is a magical time and you got it. I like the angle of the head and the piercing eye. For me the small DOF and especially the foreground blur does give it a three dimensionality that is nice.

Beautiful, Simon. I love the colors and textures in this image. I think most of us go for tight frami9ng without thinking of it-it takes a real effort to let the bird be small. :toast:

Beautiful light and a great wide framing on the bird. Love all those different textures between the grasses and the oof areas and the smoothness of the bird itself.

You nailed this one Simon. I really like the lighting on this shot. It's awash in either morning or afternoon glow. The OOF foreground and background add to the elements of this image. The birds head is nice and sharp in contrast to the bottom and top thirds of the image. Beautifully done.

Wow, I love this Simon! Great choice to go wider an include that wonderfully lit grass. I might try and crop a sliver off the bottom for comp, but this is stunning. From this angle this bustard looks very much like our Kori Bustard. :toast:
