Cranes and Rainbow

Olympus E-500, 300mm f2.8, tripod
f4.5, 1/500, ISO200

I've been reworking some of my older shots in PS CS5. This photo is from August 2007, taken at Creamer's Refuge as a series of small thunderstorms were moving through. The low sun angle made for about five minutes of amazing light, and I was lucky enough to catch this small flock of Sandhill Cranes against a faint rainbow.

Cropped to remove partial bird on left edge; slight adjustments to levels. Selective sharpening of the birds.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

I think this is a wonderful capture, Jim. What lucky circumstances were presented to a prepared photographer. The composition design really pulls your eye to the four cranes directly in front of the rainbow. I think this is a great capture.

Great capture Jim. I think the elements fell into place for you and you did a great job of capturing this moment. A good job on sharpening the cranes, as all of them are in focus and sharp. :toast:

The rainbow and wheeling birds make a beautiful image Jim, and well done getting all the birds in focus.

Jim, Nice capture w/ the rainbow. Getting a flock with separation is hard enough.Lovely.

A very unique and attractive shot Jim. Love the colors and position of the birds relative to the rainbow as the "line" leads my eye to the color. Very nice.

Cool shot, Jim. Nice balance between the tail of the bird formation and the upper tier of the rainbow.

Very special sky and birdscape Jim. The rainbow adds a huge amount of visual stimuli to the image, which without it would be not so exciting. Very nicely done! :toast:

Jim,

This just made me go "ahhh" when I looke at it, the rainbow, soft blue sky and the cranes gives this a very nice peaceful mood.
