Dahlia Season w/ REPOST

It's another beautiful part of summer. . . the Dahlia's are in bloom. Yesterday was spent at the Swan Island Dahlia farm in Canby Oregon. They claim to be the largest grower of Dahlias in the US with over 350 verities grown on 40 acres. For flora photographers this compares to being a kid roaming free in a candy store. This is my first dahlia posting of what should be many over the next few weeks, I hope you find them as beautiful as I do.

The colors and threesome layout certainly got my attention. Can't wait to see the rest of your shots. You are so lucky to have such a great source for photography.

Nits: There seems to be too much attention on the oof flowers and not enough on the subject bloom. Also, the lower petal is slightly out of the frame.

Love the rich colors in this Craig and the grays in the bg. I also like the composition with the echoing flowers. I do agree with Patricia that I'd prefer that the lower flower weren't clipped. Certainly no big deal though. This is beautiful image and I'm looking forward to the series very much.

Craig, I too will look for additional Dahlia images from you. I'll ditto the comments already made and add that I really like the way you exposed for the reds.
Happy shooting ;^)

Craig: OK, I'll pile on and mention the clipped petal but I really like the colors and your DOF choice. Keep 'em coming! >=))>

I strive to meet the high expectations set by my friends in this wonderful Flora gallery. I submit an improved version of the original that hopefully fixes the "clipped petal" I overlooked!

I do appreciate the critiques and suggestions...... Have a wonderful weekend! Craig

Dahlia time is sure one of my favorites of the year. I am envious of your proximity to Swan Island Dahlias.

I love the rich deep color in this one Craig. The two bg flowers look like valets to the fg bloom, shading it/tending to it, which makes for a more endearing trio than having all three seen straight on. I like the mood. Seems a bit tight on the comp, esp. at the bottom. But not such a great big deal; overall, this is beautiful and inspires me to head for my local dahlia farmer's field! Thanks.

P.S. What a perfectly creative fix! :jump: LOL.

Criag, This is lovely work with the Dahlias. Its not easy shooting groups like this but I think you pulled it off well. Love the reds are handled here and the angled orientation of the main Dahlia. Nice details on the petals also

Wild red color here. Love the re-post with the foreground bloom popping out the screen. :toast:

This beautiful, Craig! It would make a nice large print. Because of the
dark background the red is not overpowering, in my opinion.
