Mid-summer Madness

I think I have with this image yet another photo that will become the new Summer image, rather than the old!
I had written a note to Gary a couple of nights ago saying, "Enough Bougainvillea," and then the next morning, the light was perfect, the winds were still, and how could I possibly resist this? I originally titled it the Queen of Drama!

Shooting data:
D700
70-200mm lens + Canon 500D CU diopter @ 120mm
f/7.1
1/1250s
Aperture mode
ISO 200
Spot meter
Hand-held

Comments and suggestions most welcome.

Oops, almost forgot. I borrowed the idea of adding grain to the image from Pat's Hibiscus. I think it adds a richness and feeling of dimensionality to the original.

I'm attaching a small version of the image with no grain so you can see for yourself what I'm talking about. ARGH! What a convoluted sentence!

Cheers,

Hi Carol,
first thank you for all your kind comments.

As far as my lens, yes, I enjoy very much my new NIKON AF-S 60mm macro for shoting flowers: it is sharp, light and easy to handle. ( IMO better than the cumbersome AF-S 105 VR ).
Yet for bugs I use a SIGMA 180 HMS.

I've replyed to Barbara Graham according to your advice.
Greetings.
Mauro

Works better with adding the grain Carol in my humble .02$ worth.

I prefer the "grain added" version also....works better with the earth tones and gives an archaic feel to the image.

Wow, I really like the re-post, and, I'd like to see one without the left hand leafs, just the shadow box on the center. JUST ME. Super job Carol, just super. :toast:

Love this one Carol and I much prefer it with the grain. Really well seen and presented. No suggestions.

My favourite (yet) from this series, Carol. The shadows seen through the veined petals are extremely interesting. Very innovative approach :toast:

like the grain version too, kind of an antiquie (if there is such a word?) feel about it.

Carol:
Glad you persisted. Best of the series IMO. Like the grainy image. The silhouette reminds me of shadow theater in Asia so your idea of Queen of drama is quite appropriate.

For sure I like much more the first one, with grain. That one without grain gives me an artificial feeling. Very well done Carol.

Love the silhouettes, Carol. nicely done.
I don't know if I can enjoy a photo with grain inserted. Having called grain the enemy through so many years of film it goes against my instinct to appreciate it. But then in this case it does provide a sense of interest, where the lack of vibrant color seems to need something.
In any case I'm enjoying your boug work.

Excellent use of light and shadow! The grain does work well here.
