There is a grove of trees at Quivira NWR that holds lots of honeysuckle looking plants, and I always figured it attracted hummingbirds. I've never taken the time to sit and find out. Last night, it only took me a few minutes to confirm that hummers do visit the grove :). 7D, f/8, ISO 400, 1/1000, partial crop

Beautiful light, Rob. This ruby-throat is visiting trumpet creeper, Campsis radicans. One of their favorites.

Nice catch, Rob. I like the composition and the open beak. The body seems a bit soft which is odd, because the feet look very sharp. :toast:

Nice comp here Rob. I live the colors and the open beak adds a lot. The bird's tail and feet look tack sharp, but the head and body a just a tad soft. Funny how that stuff happens and you really can't explain it. Overall a great shot IMO.

My hummers have been very active. Trumpet vine is a hummingbird favorite. I really like the open beak and surroundings! :toast:

Thanks for the comments, everybody. Hummer season is just starting here in central Kansas. I hope to make several trips back to this grove. Peter, I appreciate the ID of the plant.

An unusual composition that I like Rob. You had a lot to get sharp here and you mostly did.
