Flying carpenter bee #2

I posted a flying carpenter bee awhile back but I hesitated about posting this one eventhough I kind of like it. The reason for the hesitation is the vast expanse of colorful OOF azaleas. Although the carpenter bee is well separated from the bg by being sharp and of different color, I am not sure the small size is enough to carry this off. Be interested to hear your opinion.

D90 105mm 1/1500sec F5 manual focus HH. Thanks for viewing and C&C appreciated.

This works. I think it is because the bee is a vastly different color than the background, especially the blacks. Also, there is only one thing in the image to grab your attention and again, it is the bee. Even the dark tones in the azaleas are a lot lighter than the bee so it doesn't compete for your attention. The last bit is that the only real light hightlights are in the bee as well. There are lighter areas in the flowers but those have a clear pinkish.

Gary,
I share your hesitation. The Bee is sharp enough and well separated fro the BG, but too small and then the beautiful and colorful OOF BG is prevaling at a first sight.
IMHO youhave to make a choice: if you want to draw the attention on the Bee you have to sacrify the BG cropping it a bit and toning it dawn (alas !).

That's pretty crazy how you got this action shot. I personally love it. You inspired me to work on a similar shot idea. Thank you Gary.

Hey Gary, the BG adds some pop in the images, and the bee stands out fine.

Great job of capturing this guy flying with a 105 hh and in focus!. For me, I think it is an artistic shot and I would consider cropping a little to get more emphasis on the bee. :toast:
