Sony A700
Minolta 100mm macro
ISO 200, 1/15 @ f22, +1.0EC

One of our Star of Texas blooms at dawn. I liked the lone pollen particle on the lower petal so did not clone it out. This was one of the rare occasions I left my 200mm lens in the bag as I needed to work closer to the bloom to get the tripod in the right position. All comments welcome.>=))>

Breautiful, Bill. Nice angle and DOF.
These must be related to hibiscus, as the stamen is the same?

Sandy: This is indeed a hibiscus. Thanks for the query. . . Bill

Bill:
Really like the soft low angle light bringing out the texture of the petals. The few pollen grains on the petal are good counterpoint for the bundle on the pistils. :toast:

Bill, very nice indeed, really like the soft light and color, and you exposed the whites beautifully. Well done.

Extremely beautiful, Bill - the variations in the light perfectly handled. A slight nit would be the bit of greenery at the top R, but nothing can detract from the rendering of the petals and centre.

Beautiful light Bill and exceptional composition. Love the star that's created by the bg and I also like the pollen on that broad petal. I agree with Ian about the upper right corner and would probably darken/clone it out - maybe the touch of green on the left corner as well. Otherwise, it's hard for me to imagine an image doing a better job of working both as a documentary of the plant and as fine art. A very fine image, possibly exceptional, for my tastes. (smile)

I love the whites Bill, and the comp is great overall. I think for me I like about a half inch cropped off the top, to where that BG foliage meets the petal. To me that cleans up the shot a bit. If you are processing on it anyway, I might lose that yellow spot on the bottom left petal too - but now I am just being picky. It is a great shot and a wonderful bloom.

Hi Bill, haven't seen this one but then, I'm a night owl most of the time.

I think the 100mm lens work quite well. The whites are beautiful and those grains of pollen add to the image from my perspective.

Nice job.

Cheers,

Carol

Outstanding quality of light here, Bill not to speak of the gorgeous flower by itself :toast: . If anything in terms of improvement, its the leaf in the background in the top left corner, but then it was there.

Wow, wow, wow. What a perfect mix of light, whites, comp, and dof. The only small nit I could possibly have would be to darken the leaf or stem in the urc. Oh, I just saw it's been addressed already. Oh well, incredible shot, Bill.

Bill, I see you've stepped down to play at our level for a while (100mm Macro). :jump:
Wonderful image, I agree with your decision to leave the lone particle on the petal. Nice whites and I like the way parts of the petals are shaded. I havn't been here for a couple weeks and I see you've recruited some help with this fast growing forum. :toast:
