Wasp spider
by Daniel & Loana
We shot this Argiope Bruennichi yesterday morning.
On the web we can see the zigzag shape called the stabilimentum, or web decoration, featured at the centre of the orb is of uncertain function, though it may be to attract insects.
This one could be a male (the male of the species is much smaller than the female).
We had to use flash because the web was very low and the bg too bright and the subject resulted too dark; we tryed with the reflecting panel but it was not enough.
We don't like to use flash very much, but set at -2 in this case it is not so evident.
Thanks for looking

9 commentsMight darken the BG in ULC which currently appears a bit too bright to me.
Rest of the BG is amazing.
Love the narrative and chance to learn.
The spider is sharp and the fine web detail at the bottom is excellent. Nice colors and BG.

Very well done. Perfect exposure and just the right fill with the flash. The web pattern is also well shown. Top notch.
