This is my first post in the Flora forum. I found this beautiful presentation of veratrum and wildflowers in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness area in Oregon.

Nikon D80, 50mm 1.8 lens.
1.8 sec at f/16, ISO 100, polarizer.

All comments and critiques are appreciated.

Excellent sharpness and color saturation. The purple flower pedals are nicely position in triangular shape to mimic shape of the leaves.

Scott: Welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and thanks for a spectacular first post. I like the rich color palette and lines especially. I would be very tempted to bring up the light a touch in the ULC to see the details there a bit better. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more.>=))>

Welcome to the gallery Scott. Great first post. Love the light and the composition. In at least one respect, I think this is an unusual composition for the Flora gallery. The image doesn't seem to me to have a clearly defined subject which makes it unlike most of the flora images in this gallery. Please don't take that as a criticism, it's not intended as such and is merely an observation. It makes me think that you might be a landscape photographer and in looking at your gallery images, that would certainly seem to be the case. Beautiful work there by the way. My only suggestion for this image would be to lighten the corners some. On my Macbook monitor they appear mostly blocked. If there's nothing there, I might crop in a little all around.

For my tastes, this is a gorgeous image. I hope to see you posting more in this gallery.

Rich and soft. Makes me want to lay in them. I like the dark corners. I wouldn't change them.

Hey Scott, welcome to the forum. Great find, the lighting creates a very interesting moody woodland scene. Not sure if you created the vignette in the corners. If so, might be tempted to lighten them up a bit to reduce the "spot light" effect. The three floral buds create a very pleasing triangle and the leaf pattern of the veratrums is excellent. The leaf qualities are fantastic. Not mark on them. Well seen and captured.

Great first post to the Flora gallery, Scott. I have two minor suggestions: 1) I agree with Pat that the corners are too dark and I would lighten them but not too much as the centrally located highlighting works well and 2) a slight crop from the top to remove that magenta flower that is on the top central border.

I'm right there with the other comments on this one. Spectacular shot, but the dark corners do draw my eye a bit. That's minor but worth addressing if possible.

It is as if I were looking in a softly lit aquarium...the swirling plants reaching in and out of the sun beams....and those ruby blossoms...a perfect addition. Seems like everyone has a comment on the corners...I am ambivalent.....uhhh...well, maybe not...just to say that a single pixel box line ..perhaps a light green, yellow or ruby tint...to separate the black border from the photo might be all that is needed...since the two blacks run together as one in the corners. Beautiful shot.

Great first post Scott. I really like the dark exposure free of noise and the rich colors that it spawns. A fine composition with wonderful highlights in the green leaves of the Veratrum. I like the small pink flowers that poke through and brighten the scene. The sharpness at 1.8 shows excellent technique. I look forward to more posts :toast:

There is a lot of drama going on in this image, simply wonderful. Welcome to the Flora Gallery and looking forward to seeing more. If you get the chance or the time stop by the Photo Art Gallery.

Thank you very much to everyone for the warm welcomes and kind comments. I reprocessed the photo to lighten the corners just a bit. I still like them dark, but hopefully I lightened them just enough to show a little detail (instead of close to black). Let me know if you have any further comments. I look forward to viewing more of the outstanding photos from this group.

This is another great image, Scott! Love the flowers in there. All the corners of the image are dark. Did you intend it that way? What a great first post here in flora, not to mention the latest one. Keep it up!
