Liked the way these Rocky Mountain flowers were blooming around the old logs. Taken in RMNP.

Those are some nice fireweed you got there, John! I really like the vibrant color of the blooms contrasting with the dark logs. A crop suggestion: crop up from the bottom to about the bottom of the main log. For some reason, the 3 logs going different directions pulls my eye away from the star of the show (the colorful blooms).

Nice environmental shot of this bright flowers, John. A crop suggested by Angela would simplify the scene.

John,
I'm having trouble with composition in this. I like the heavy horizontal log next to the flowers on the viewer's right but the other diagonal logs seem to me to dominate the image. I think it would have been hard to shoot these and not have the bg intrude. You could open up the lens more but then then you risk soft flowers. I do agree with Angela's crop suggestion. I do like seeing the flowers.

Angela, thanks for your comments. I am including a second photo of the same scene but a different composition. I think it does what you suggested. Let me known.

Great Fireweed and a very typical Colorado scene.
I think this is a great environment shot, John, and I would suggest darkening the BG logs just a bit so they don't pull the eye away from the subject.
Cheers,
Carol

The second post is very nice! I like how the flowers are placed against the logs. Well done!

John: You have two entirely different shots here; each has its merits. My first inclination on the original was to suggest cropping from the top. I like the scene and the capture. The second shot is just excellent. >=))>
