I See You

I am very interested in hawks and enjoy photographing them, although from time to time they try to snitch one on my hybrid bantums. This one was so intent on getting a meal that he let me get to within 15 feet of him and just sat and stared at me. I had to use athe SH tool because it was too dark, but now I think I see noise in the background. Am I right? Or is this from over sharpening.

Jackie, bringing up an underexposed image will increase the noise in an image. This image has quite a bit of noise in the BG, but also in the bird. This indicates to me that you increased the brightness quite a bit given your low ISO of 100. This is a good example of why it is so important to get the image as close to perfect in-camera as you can. Post-processing cannot save an image if it is not very close to correct in-camera. These comments are nothing personal, just building off the question you raised in your comments and trying to be constructive and help you get better. Cheers.

Hey, Thanks Ron, Here's a repost. It has been so long since I have posted that I have almost forgotten how. The first one was saved as a giff, this one as a jpg file. I think it is quiet a bit better but still some noise in the hawk. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I'm am never offended when someone is trying to help.

The noise in the green area is really noticeable. Your cropped repost seems to take care of that. He's a good looking bird.

Hi Jackie,
Lucky for you to get that close to a hawk. To bad you underexposed the shot. Severly underexposed images will always be a noise problem. The repost looks much better than the original.
Thanks for posting,
Ronnie G.

Jackie,
I agree with what Ron & Ronnie have said in their critiques. I wanted to add that if you had perhaps used some positive ev compensation the image wouldn't have been so dark. Also I'd recommend using a higer ISO than you used here.
