Porphyry Treasures

It aint the gold or silver, thats for sure! Shot Porphyry Basin and Yankee Boy Basin over the weekend--finest display of wildflowers ive seen in CO so far--amazing! This is the same waterfall Joe Rossbach posted a shot of a couple weeks back (same fun real real narrow road to get there too!). I had limited time, so i raced up to the lakes and then tried to get back down to the falls for sunset, didnt quite make it. This was from an hour or som before sunset, a wide view of the basin and falls. Incidentally, met up with numerous NPNers in the area, including John Mumaw, Alex Mody, Chuck Peacock, and Jack Brauer. Fun trip!

What a pretty mountain scene. The composition really draws me in, and I love the natural colors and soft light. Great job, Stan!

Beautiful color and a very pleasant scene Stan. Those flowers are a great lead in to the waterfall and beyond.

I love this place, Stan. The road up there is quite the ride....some call it Pucker Point  You've got some great light going on here, even though you missed the sunset.

Well, i caught the sunset, actually got my favorite shot at sunset--it just wasnt at the waterfall (funny how that happens) Yeah, someone got stuck in front of me at Pucker point--we had to pull/push him through!

What lovely flowers Stan. A waterfall to boot. Show off.
That looks like a sweet valley to peruse through. Although, a bit too much terrain. We like it flat and quite uninteresting here in the Midwest. ( -sobs and sniffles )

Lovely image.

Beautiful image, stan.
Love the bright colors and waterfall.
To my eye, it needs some CCW rotation.so the horizon and waterfall are level.. ?

Wow! This one really sings Stan. I like it a lot, especially the distant view of the peaks and the light on them. If it were mine, I'd be tempted to crop a little off the top and bottom to focus the action even more.

The only thing I notice that maybe could use some improvement at this size of file is the transition between the sky and the peak in the URC; it looks like it could use some feathering or softening a bit. Overall, one of your better images as of late IMO. Awesome work!

Hey Stan, your take on the falls is fantastic! The paintbrush in the FG really adds dimension to your vision. Sounds like you had a great trip.

Hi Stan,
Great image! I agree with Michael Greene that it may be even stronger with a slight crop. I would consider cropping the bottom to take out the two lowest pink flowers. This will leave the lower left corner filled with flowers, which will lead to the falls. Again fantastic shot!!

I like it too, especially how the wf sort of sits backstage to the flowers. Are those magenta flowers paintbrush? I'm just not sure. We don't get that color here in AZ.

Hello Stan,

What clearness on this one, it is absolutely incredible. The light and the colours through this place are magical and the waterfalls puts a pretty note on the composition...

That's a gorgeous location, but I really want to see what this pucker point is all about! Is this in the San Juans? If so, is that Red Mountain in the background?

That's not Red Mountain, but pretty close, this is near the pass. I believe 'Pucker Point' was coined by Todd Caudle, you definitely say a short prayer before driving through  Right before you get to that point there's a sign that says something like "The road ahead is narrow and dangerous--travel not recommended" and someone hand wrote in "VERY VERY VERY VERY narrow"-- basically if you dont hug the cliff you roll a few thousand feet down

Stan, the composition is perfect, you have interesting elements all around and the light works great illuminating the distant mountains.
