Chestnut-crowned Babbler
by Simon Bennett
Chestnut-crowned Babbler photographed on Bowra Station, western Queensland. These birds are normally a little more handsome - this bloke had been digging in the moist red soil which has discoloured his eyebrow and crown.
Canon 7D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4x, tripod, ISO 400, f/11, 1/320. The bird's tail was within a mm of the edge, so added canvas by merging with the next frame that had more space there and above.

Love the pose, the eye contact, eposure, details and sharpness. I am not at all put off by the red soil on the eye brown and crown. It is, after all a wild bird not a picture of an air-brushed fashion model
cheers
