WC 441: Boadie, Jail

In September, 2007 my wife and I spent an afternoon walking around the ghost town of Boadie, California (approx. 75 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe). Boadie was a booming mining town in from 1878 -> 1882. By 1962, there population had dwindled to 10. Today, Boadie is a National Historic Landmark and is administered by California State Parks and per the Parks Department, Boadie is now in an ‘arrested state of decay’.

This image is of the Boadie Jail. The architecture of the jail is not the most interesting of all of the buildings on the property… but if these walls could speak - I bet that the stories recounted would make this one of the most interesting places for sure.

Camera: Canon EOS-1D MKII
Lens: 24-70 F2.8L @ 24mm
Exposure: 1/160 @ F16, ISO 200

Cheers,

dark and moody - just as, i'm sure, the tales would be. here in mozambique, the country is littered, literally, with crumbling old buildings left by the portuguese colonists - and the mozambicans are either superstitious and don't want to use them or they were mined during one or other of the wars. different story - sme end result - crumbling old buildings full of stories.

Very nice presentation Bruce, I truly like the rich brown color of the wooden planks and the muted yellow flowers in the foreground, it almost looks like a painting.

Neat! The gray sky is a fitting atmosphere too. Probably worth some exposure compensation to try to get a little more detail in the sky. :wavey:

What a neat old building. If walls could speak indeed... The wood seems a bit too dark but that could just be my crappy work monitor. I really like the composition of this one, and the blooming flowers/bush in the front is a nice contrast with the dark wood.

Great colors and I like the soft light here. The yellow rabbitbrush is a nice addition to the scene. The center of the sky does seem a little bright. My daughter and I were there about a week ago. Great place and nicely done.

An old west ghost town image like this with that stormy sky just screams for a B&W conversion to me.

Very well done Bruce, all the elements seem to be brought together by the sky for me. Well seen and taken. :toast:
