Sandy! This is so fine. Love the head turn on both mom and chick. The black and white pattern on the bird is in great detail, and seen like this, from the front is really cool. And you handheld a 500 in a boat and got this? Geez!
You lucky. I've been impatiently waiting/hoping to see loons but no success yet. Nice to see you posting.

Excellent Sandy,
Nice head turn and eye contact. Check out that red eye. :-) Love the soft light here. The low angle puts it over the top.
Hand held from a boat?! You must have arms of steel, My next shot would have been from the bottom of the lake!
Nicely done.

Hi Sandy,
I like the way the red eye breaks the monochromatic scene. The whites seem a little hot on my monitor.
Cool shot.

Amazing
I have 1000+ images of Loons from up at Loon Lake near Yellowstone. They are to black or blown out whites. Tough to get close to and tough to get the exposure just right. You nailed this one.

Hand-holding is not as difficult as people think, with the right technique. Almost all my 500mm shots are hand-held - boat, land, or air.

Sweet shot, Sandy
The B&W patterns are great and you have good detail in the blacks.
The little one should have a cute alert posted!
To my eyes, the water line seems off level a tiny bit.
Excellent photo!

Wonderful! You coved the blacks in this one really well. I like all the little details (water droplets on mom, catchlights and of course a super sharp shot. What's not to love!

The whites on the chest seem overexposed, but other than that it's a great photo. I wish I had those in this area of Texas. Nice job.

Wow, that's a home run Sandy!! Absolutely appreciate the fine detail you've captured and the water in the FG is especially pleasing, would even like to see a little more of it. Just exquisite, congrats!!!

Lovely intimate shot Sandy. White breast looks a little hot on my monitor but the exposure on these must be a nightmare.
