Agitated Bison

The Bison are beginning to exhibit rutting behavior. I was happy to intercept two bulls this morning in a position that made them crown a rise above me. I liked their attitudes and I liked the unusually low perspective.

D3S, 200-400 @ 240, ISO 800, 1/400 @f9. Cropped to 4x5 ratio, a little from each side. Your observations are most welcome.

Lovely Lon, I really like the way the low perspective emphasizes the downward look of the Bison and the little glint in his eyes. Well seen and executed! :toast:

Lon, that low perspective is definitely what makes this a powerful portrait. The detail of course is also fantastic. I do wish there was a sliver more room below its beard at the bottom, but that is really minor. :toast:

Just awesome detail - though similar to my latest seal image it's a bit tight all on top and on the bottom and of course a canvas add can get tricky. Wild hair though!

splendid portrait. maybe not the very best placement but the perspective makes up for that and it is strikingly sharp and detailed.

Nice portait of him Lon. Love the facial detail that is rarely seen in one of these animals as they are usually shaded from the thick coat of hair. I really like the highlight in the eye which is a rarity on a Buff!
Congrats!

Wonderful frame with great details n expressions! It is very-very difficult to see expressions in Bison's face.

Love this shot Lon, because of the perspective from lower down it almost feels like you took this with a wide angle. Great detail and expression too. :toast:

Love the open mout and the fact you can see the white of the eye. The sky makes a great background as well.

Hey Lon.
Been guiding tours through Yellowstone all sumer and this week noticed the rutting behavior you mentioned. What is the typical behavior we should watch for during this time?
