Western Tanager

This female Western Tanager took a nice pose on the new perch I have set up at my new favorite waterhole. I desaturated the yellows on the breast a little (-10) as they seemed too bright (and may still be). I also did a minor clone job to remove some riffraff along the bottom edge, and did NR on the bg.

This is likely my last post until August--on Thurs I'm off to the Canadian Rockies for about 2 weeks.

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, monopod

1/250, f/6.3, ISO 800

Crop to 48% of original (8.7 of 18MP)

Nice detail and color. Maybe just a little more room on top and a little less on the bottom.

Very nice; I like Dan's suggestion. If it were mine, I might have tried 1/125 and a bit more DOF to try and get the tail in focus.

Great head detail Brian, I especially enjoy seeing the eye so well. Nice clean background too. If it were mine I might try Dan's comp suggestion. Hope you enjoy your trip - some of my fondest memories are from up there.

Brian:
I like your new perch and the associated BG. I like the pose of the bird and the sharpness, especially in the eye/head region. Enjoy the Canadian Rockies! :toast:

Brian,

I sure like her pose and the look you appear to be getting. I like her head angle too.

I like the comp suggestion provided by Dan.

Great image. I like the head turn while the bird still appears to be watching the camera.
