Leopard In Serengeti

Had posted a variation of this with the baby's tail intertwined. Here's one without the cub in the frame.

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.

Feb 2010. Can't wait for the 2011 birthing season.

EOS 7D, @600 mm, f/8, ISO 400, 1/640, beanbag on jeep, full frame.

Regards,

Kiran

A beautiful portrait! The pink mouth partially open a fillip to the whole. A small nit—I could wish the leopard were placed more to the left, with more room on the right.

A real nice big cat pose. I like the look back and the dangling tail

Really nice shot Kiran! I have to respectfully disagree with Phil's comment about the comp - if anything, I'd like a bit more room on the left side of the shot, but the capture is just wonderful as-is.

Hi Kiran,

I quite like the overall composition here - especially the strong diagonal formed by the tree and the opposing subtle diagonal formed by the subject itself. I'm fine with how you positioned the subject horizontally in the frame and see no need to add room to the right or left. A bit unfortunate about the the white patch just to the right of the leopard's head (and I'm surprised that no one has suggested that you clone that out yet!), but overall I think this image is very solid both technically and in compositional terms. Well done!

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

A wonderful frame, I really like the dangling tail and gaze from the leopard. As for having more room at left or right, I may prefer on the right.

Thank you, all !!

Brad,

Thanks for the detailed critique. I did think about the bright patch on the right but did not want to spoil the image with my bad cloning skills :-).

As for comments about space, I was struggling to fit her into the frame with a 1.6x crop camera @ 600 mm focal distance at that narrow FoV for sure, with the camera in portrait mode:eek: . Glad I could just fit her fully in the frame while she was steady for about 2-3 seconds.

Thx,
Kiran

Superb portrait Kiran, love the pose and comp here. Not too bothered by the white spot somehow, maybe because the Leopard grabs my attention so well! :toast:

Excellent composition, Kiran. She posed beautifully. Regarding the bright spot, rather than cloning it away, you might be able to selectively lower the brightness level just a touch, so that it will not compete for the eye's attention quite as much.

Nice capture Kiran! I am fie with the comp on this. I like the diagonal of the tree runing through the frame and also the look back over the shoulder.

Excellent shot, the tree and leopard pose really make the image, my eye went right for the leopard and did not even notice the bright spot, good detail throughout the image, way to go.

Wonderful photo Kiran!! Congrats on your EP!!! The comp is spot on IMO. Because her head was turned to the left, you gave her room to look to the left. Love the dangling tail too!
