Trumpet Vine

A few years ago, we planted a trumpet vine at the base of our mailbox. It has grown like crazy and has engulfed our mailbox. So I trimmed it back so the mailcarrier could access the mailbox and brought some in for a photoshoot. Prcessed with Viveza 2 and Nik midnight and darken lighten filters prior to PS4

Lovely contrasts and colours. The black BG goes well with this image. Very neat capture. Thanks for sharing the large version.

Very VERY, VERRRRY nice capture Kathy. Maybe a schoosh more canvas on the right and subtract the bit on the left so that the stem comes in at the corner. The lighting is fantastic on the greenery. Use of the black bg makes your subject pop. I like the two eyes coming out of the two antennae. :toast:

Get rid of the stem altogether and you have a real winner! Unusual subject, handled beautifully.

Great lighting and comp. Shifting the frame slightly to the right as suggested by Steve is a good idea. I might also be inclined to make the stem disappear altogether.

The stem makes it look a little ungainly. Otherwise, my jaw dropped when I saw this. Wow, Kathy! What an elegant and exotic looking beauty. Lucky you to have it growing so well you can trim it for bouquets.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. I processed 4 of these at the time I posted this, and I also had mixed feelings about the stem. I'm glad others noticed, too and gave me their input. It helps confirm my instincts. One that I pocessed has the stem cloned out, and I'll will post it later. I think I'll also try one with Steve's idea of having the stem only partially visible and disappearing ino the background. This has been a fun little grouping of flowers to sboot.

Brava Kathy! I have never caught a decent photo of this flower. This is excellent.
Take care.

Kathy: I'm late to this party but my first impression was to make the stem go away as well. I can also see the suggestion to move the subject in the frame a bit. The colors and exposure are superb and the lighting is top notch. Well done.>=))>

Against the black bg this just sings. Beautiful work. As for the lightbox I use, I got it from Adorama, just a simple white box with two lights. I use it mostly during our long winter months (as I know you have too) to keep in touch with shooting flowers.
