Rose

Hello All,
this is my first post in Flora Gallery. Usually I post in Avian and I've recently started with close-up shots. From butterflies to flowers is a short step. In the late afternoon light this rose stood out against the pines in the background. I like how it seems almost floating in the dark.
Saving up for a macro lens, I shoot mainly with my 300f2,8.

ISO 400

tripod.

Thanks for viewing.
C&C are always welcome.

Monica

A very fine image Monica. It will be hard to improve on this first image. I think the convention is to show a stem but I'm glad you didn't. Beautiful reds floating in the dark. Welcome to the gallery. I look forward to seeing more images.

I like the "floating rose" composition very much, Monica. It's unusual and so attracts attention to this beautiful image. :toast:

Welcome to flora. Great first post. Just the right DOF and you handled the harsh lighting well. A diffuser may tone down the bright light and shadow. Like you said, it seems to emerge from the dark. Love this. BTW the 300mm coupled with an extension tube is great for flighty insect macro. Of course a macro lens would be nice as well.

Monica: Despite most of your photography being for the birds you've made a superb entry into the finest Flora gallery on the planet. Fantastic lighting and color management and a wonderful POV. I occasionally use my 300 with tubes or an extender but the weight wears me out. Your birding experience has served you really well. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more. >=))> :wavey:

I see I am not the only one that sees this as a floating cloud. Very clean and crisp. Welcome to the Flora gallery. Go ahead, set the bar high for yourself on your first post in this gallery. Umm, I can see this drizzled in dark chocolate with a dollop of whipped cream! :toast:

Quite a capture for your first Flora posting, Monica ! I love the way the flower floats, and the colouring and choice of dof could not be better in my view. A very beautiful image.

Love the light here Monica, even more beautiful with the dramatic black framing it.
Looks so 3D like I could reach out & touch the flowers petals
Well done :toast:
