Burrowing Owl #2

Here is another version of in flight burrowing owl. Same location, different pass. I thought this wing position shows feather patterns nicely. This is also a strong crop...I almost missed him in the frame and cropped lots of blue on the right. They are difficult for non-avian specialists to track!

D3S, 200-400 @400, iso 1400, 1/1600, f9.

C&C welcomed.

Excellent Photo. Wing position is excellent and eyes are sharp. Maybe you should change your "non-avian" status. You look like a specialist to me. Enjoying these birds.

A striking image as posted. There's a big difference between "missed" and "almost missed."

I never tire of seeing this species, especially an in-flight shot! Held up well to the big crop. Cool wing positions and good eye contact.

Lon, I like this one even more! Excellent flight shot and I like the look he is giving you. Was he was in hover position while hunting? I have been trying to get a good hover shot for awhile now of these guys, but the always seem to be facing away and the eyes are in the shadows too much. great job!

Super eye contact in this one Lon, the face looks nice and sharp, the wings not as much but I'm not sure if it's from wing blur or the crop. :toast:

Love the face! The wing position is excellent too. :toast:

Yes the avian specialists never lose the eye from the center point on in-flight shots.

another nice looking shot, Lon. great wing position, and I like how he's looking at you. the head seems to be the sharpest spot, so that is good. :toast:

I really like the wing position in this one, Lon. Completely different from most flight shots, but it works for me. :toast:

Wonderful shot Lon, it held up well even with the crop.
The direct eye contact & wing forward pose does it for me.
Just looked at Ron's owl..Hope someday I can be where they are, get my own.
Well done :toast:
