Shark Fin Cove

One of the more beautiful scenes along the San Mateo Coastline. This spot, dubbed 'Shark Fin Cove' by the locals, is actually one of the more difficult spots to photograph. I had my feet hanging off a 150 foot drop just so I could position the tripod to get the correct angles. This image was made during a nice winter storm. I particularly like the clouds breaking and the rays of sunlight shining on the water.

Thanks for any comments/suggestions.

The colors are gorgeous, would make a nice enlargement with the textures and colors to be seen in the image.

nice shot, good job stitching I do a lot of panoramic stuff so I know sometimes it can be a pain if 1 little thing is off and it ruins the whole look to the photo, great detail and sharpness, nice colours, there is a lot going on in this picture which makes it interesting to look at and it really captures the viewer, nice PoV....a very well composed image...

Great textures in the water and a really nice sky for the reasons described in your post. I wouldn't have tried stitching 4 images of such a transient subject, but it seems to have worked out well here. The horizon appears a little wavy to me, but that could be the light and dark areas playing tricks on me.

I think you balanced the composition nicely, and that your precarious position was well-worth the effort (courage?). Lovely color palette, and I bet those beams of light will look much more prominent in a large print. A beautiful image.

Finally got around to posting this, eh? Such a stunning location, and great light too. I wonder what sorts of neat opportunities there would be down on those rocks with all the water swirls... probably hard to get down there though!

your rendering really shows the expanse of the place. I like the drama of the water and clouds, and how the curving shoreline draws the eye through the whole image. Nice work, Benjamin! :toast:

That definitely looks like a tough place to shoot. I enjoy the dramatic sky and arrangement of rocks, but I might even enjoy this more as a pano with the bottom two rocks cropped out. Nice blend with good exposure and detail throughout.

Benjamin,
Well worth the dangle. The image has a wonderful expansive feel to it. And the clouds add a dramatic touch. Really works well. Best Regards.

Benjamin,

This is an awesome image from our local CA coast! Can't say I've ever heard of Shark Fin cove though. What town is that near? Half Moon Bay maybe?

The balance and configuration of the elements just all seem to fit together perfectly - like a puzzle. I think you did an excellent job with the exposure and balance of light between the sky, ocean and bluffs.

This is a great image. Now I have no nits, but I am wondering something. Since you're already stitching... what was to the right of this image? could you have added another frame? I see on the left you've got the cliff, so I'm expecting no more on the left, but I'm guessing there's a reason the frame couldn't be extended to the right? No biggie.

Fantastic job with this one.

Lon

Thanks for the kind words, Lon. To the right is a big bush...I had to dangle over this cliff just to get it out of the frame. I will be returning at some point to try out a pano...but I walked all the way to the edge of the cliff on the far left, and didn't see a better perspective. And this spot is right near Davenport.

I love the towering view Benjamin. The shutter speed has given the water a very life-like appearance. Great job with this.

Very nice comp Ben, I like the water color and faintly breaking god rays far off in the distance and the grass contrasting with the rock. The scene some how seems to be robbed of depth in a way, maybe from lightening the rock? Glad you tried a pano of the ocean many are scared to try pano seascapes if not the ocean alone.

Nice shot Ben! I like the sun bursting through the clouds (this is one of my favorite locations up hwy1 from SC to photograph, and it looks like you were hanging over the the cliff to get this shot)
