Monument Rocks, western Kansas. The nearly full moon was lighting up the rocks, and the first hint of color was showing in the clouds. 7D, ISO 1600, 20 sec, f/4.5, minimal crop

Rob,
This is outstanding! I know we've seen just a few images from this place - being that western Kansas is probably not on the world-wide photo tour list... All razzing aside, this is one of the best I've seen of this place. When the image first popped up, I thought immediate of the Sphinx, the great Pharaohs, etc. etc. Technically executed beautifully; I don't see much noise, if any, at this size. And the stars, and clouds... this is awesome. Congrats!

This has to be the best image I've seen from this unusual and inspiring place. You're camera angle relative to the moonlight was perfect, as is the grouping of the rocks. And the stars combined with that early morning glow of light just sends this over the top. Really outstanding, Rob. Congratulations!

Thanks everybody. Lon, you are right, Kansas isn't a prime photo destination for very many folks :). Under the full moon, Monument Rocks takes on a whole new feeling, that is hard to describe. This night was one of the most beautiful that I have spent out there. This was my first visit with my 7D and with the full moon, and I am very happy with how it controlled the noise. This allowed me to shoot at ISO 1600 instead of ISO 800 that I could only manage with my 30D/50D. This ability has brought me much closer to the kind of images I would like to create, both here and elsewhere in the night.

Beautiful work Rob. The stars showing in the URH make this for me. A very unique image.

Otherworldy and beautiful. Just the right light on the rocks to go with the stars.

This looks very grand Rob. The red on the horizon and the deep blue sky are really appealing.

Rob, this is spectacular! Your images of Monument Rocks are always great, but this one really stands out. Your comp is superb, and I love the swirly clouds and faint hints of color, with the stars shining through. Your technical execution and lack of noise is very impressive.
