Great Blue Heron

Not sure this is the appropriate Gallery for this image, but Avian just didn't seem right. I saw this Heron on the river as I was driving, but by the time I got stopped and put the telephoto lens on the camera it took off. I turned around to find him perched on a rock silhouetted against the stormy sky. This is not converted to grayscale, I had to go back in the history to make sure. Just a very monochomatic scene. I have been feeling the need to see and do the unusual lately. Nature has some suprises from time to time.

Nice silhouette. Probably should be in Avian, since the bird is quite recognizable.

Russ,

No worries - the heron makes for a great focal point and compositional element, but it's certainly not a study of the bird - if that makes sense. So a-ok with me and ES&S.

Amazing this is color and not converted, but that's neither here nor there. Personally I would favor a crop from the bottom to remove the little diagonal/rock in the LLC. Otherwise, I think this is a great catch and tells a good nature story.

Ahg! I looked again at the history and saw it had been converted, sorry, there were several steps and I missed it. This was shot awhile ago and I remembered it as monochomatic. Here it is in RGB and cropped as suggested. You can see the grayscale conversion wasn't too significant, but did make it better IMO. Thanks for the great feedback.

Hey Russ, good thing he stayed still for you. this one has a lot of graphic appeal. The oof lower left does catch the eye, but is nicely fixed with the small crop. I much prefer the colour version. Great image, which I feel deserves more comments than received. Keep up the posting.
