P. Martin & Red Admiral

Another Purple Martin shot - this time with a red admiral butterfly and with morning (direct) lighting so I didn't have to dial up so much exposure comp.

Unfortunately the natural perch system isn't working... will have to devise a better plan (next year?)

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH standing on table
f/8
1/2500s
ISO 800

Negligible Crop, some cloning to remove plastic elements from perch

Very nice Luke. The only this as you said it would have been nice to have a natural perch. :toast:

Everyone wants a BOAS. Personally, I don't mind the bird on a wire.

Great job on the bird! The beak was confusing, until i figure out it was the other wing of the butterfly partially obscuring the beak.

Beautiful. Nice details in those dark feathers and I love the butterfly in the bill. If this is where the birds are then this is where you must take the photos of them. I really like it.

Very nice; yes, the perch is not the best possible, but the situation is really great!

Congrats

Nice capture, Luke. I like that the eye of the bird is completely visible. The detail in the bird is especially fine too. :toast:

Neat catch with a colorful prey Luke. Nice that you got the eye clear - typically when they're battling prey with large wings like this I get the nictitating membrane over the eye. I'm seeing a halo around the bird.

Luke, I like the nice details on this one, and the butterfly again is a very nice plus.

Luke, I like this one better than your last purple martin post, I find the pose very interesting and appealing, the butterfly is the icing.
