Flowing into Summer

I spent the last couple days up at Lake Isabelle, a high mountain lake in the Indian Peaks area near Boulder, CO. Its a popular place do to fairly easy access (just a couple miles from paved road) but once the weekend crowd cleared it was pretty quiet. There was quite a bit of snow left up there, i wanted to get to a glacier above the lake but the snowfields were too steep and icy and i didnt have much gear with me. This was from a scout on Sunday; as is frequently the case in summer, the best light proved to be late afternoon thanks to the storms over the mountains. The light really got magical just before sunset. This was along a creek flowing down from the lake.

Oh yeah, now that's the stuff (the picture, not this beer). Fantastic light, reflections, water texture and lines combine for a powerful shot. I'd consider a very small crop from the bottom but that's about all I can suggest, Stan. Sweet!

Stan: I like the lines in this image. Bring me in and leads me through the image. Your choice of shutter speed worked very well.

The fire in the sky and the movement of the water help to make this a wonderful picture, Stan.

Yeah, that's very nice! Good sky, with lots of drama, and nice sweep with the stream. I thought this could have been from the cascades or something.

Stan,

This is stellar! The sweeping curve of the stream with the subtle reflections of light and color really stand out. Oh yeah, not a bad sky either!

This is a beaut Stan.

Pretty awesome, Stan. Those summer storms make for some great light and I love the color pallete here.

Maybe a slight crop off the bottom to help balance the elements and a little bit of shadow-targeted dodging to the tops of the trees? Both of these are just minor things, I really do love it the way it is!

I like the way the crisp textures in the water matches the sharp details and contrasty presentation of the rest of the scene. Magical light is right!

A lot of eye candy from top to bottom Stan. The flowers in the foreground are delightful.

very good, stan. i like everything here - and the river zooming out stage right adds tension although it is partially balanced by the tree on the left.

Nice shot Stan. That sky is magical, and the water movement is nice too. One minor nit - the trees are somewhat splayed due to lens distortion - an easy fix in PS.

Love it, makes me want to be exactly where you are at in that picture, just looks so peaceful and far away from reality.... and civilization of course.

Beautiful flow to the composition Stan. Some magical light for sure. Too bad about the glacier, but it looks like your time spent up here was still worth spending. Usually any time in nature is worth spending though, right. ;]
