Get Out of My Face

Mark III, 800mm w/1.4 ext. for 1120mm, ISO 400, f/8, 1/1300th, Natural Light

This is another Kingfisher image that some may feel is uncomfortably tight. I understand that POV but feel this composition gives the most impact to the expression that makes the image interesting. At least that's my theory.

This is a posture that let's another approaching Kingfisher know it is not welcome.

Comments always appreciated.

Very intense Peter and the tight presentation makes it even more so. Another unique and close up look at this species that only you seem to be able to get.

You've earned the title King of the Kingfishers with this series of impressive images.

Thank you for the kind words. I am fortunate to have Kingfishers close by where I can set up blinds to watch and photograph them. That, plus an intense interest on my part, makes it easy for me to spend hours and hours observing them. I literally have several hundred images on file and every so often I go through and "mine" them for something I like that shows interesting expression.

Love this one Peter. What a pose and fine capture. The framing space is perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, this is like an avian macro! I think the tight comp is called for, given the posture and attitude this guy is showing. Incredible! :jump:

I love Kingfishers Peter and this rocks. I agree with Rich. Those that feel it's too tight have never attempted to photo a Kingfisher. We are usually cropping down 100% to get even a glimpse. That 800 with a converter is producing some sharp images Peter. Very good detail on the feathers. Is he mistaking you for another Kingfisher??? I think I now know how you are able to get so close to these guys. I'd love to see your disguise. Just kidding Peter. I know it's hard work that gets you these shots because almost no one else can. You are the Kingfisher KING. I'm so envious. Can't wait for the next one Peter. Keep em coming.
