Kingfisher : Grooming

Mark III 1D, 800mm, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/1000th, Wimberly, Natural light

ANother one from my RAW archives. I really like the various "looks" and poses that Kingfishers provide.

This may be a little tight for some but I like it because the the Kingfisher is curled into a circle and focused on itself, thus not looking out of frame in any direction.

Comments always appreciated.

Peter

Peter, really nice detail and accurate colors ! Love the pose - but, yes, it seems quite tight on the left, and really no reason it needs to be.. Seems unbalanced to me as is.

This is IMHO a pretty neat photo. I agree with Sandy's comment about being too tight on the left, and again, IMHO I would like to have seen a little more of the beak. But, this is a very unusual image of a kingfisher and I enjoy seeing it. Thanks for sharing.

Love the shot Peter. For my tastes the crop is perfect and serves to emphasize the pose, which distinguishes the image. Detail is excellent and the bg provides no distractions. Outstanding image.

Great pose. Love that fanned tail. I like the tight crop for all the reasons you mentioned. Very nice.

I figured this was your well before I saw the name. Very nice detail and overall image quality.

I like the pose and the view of the spread tail feathers. For composition I'd try this with equal amounts of space on all sides (more thaan you've got on the left).

Nicely done, Peter. You have a great set up in your kingfisher shots. The simple perch and the preening pose go well together. For me the main attractions are the spread out tail and the hint of orange/brown against the wonderful background. I think this also work well with a slightly looser crop! :toast:

Wonderful and unusual pose, Peter. I do agree with Sandy's comment about needing more room at the left. However, I view that as a nit: it's a very fine image. :toast:

Another excellent 'fisher Peter. Detail is superb and I like your DOF to get the bird completely sharp. I like the behavior and have no need to see the entire beak while it's grooming like this. Love that tail spread. Perhaps a more centered comp would work very well too.

Excellent, Peter. It is a bit tight, but as you say, it works that way. I think I might even center this one a bit more. :toast:
