Prickly poppy

I went shooting out in the Flint Hills yesterday, and was blown away by the number & diversity of blooms I saw: at least 30 different varieties! I'll be posting many more Wild Things in the weeks to come, so hope you don't get tired of them

This was taken early in the morning, before some clouds moved in. It was the one and only prickly poppy I saw the entire day.

Canon Rebel XTI, handheld
35-80 mm lens
ISO 100, F5.6 @ 1/800

Hi Angela, your composition and balance in the frame is ideal! Light and colors are solid as well. I will venture to say, for me...always a matter of individual preference... the right blossom is more attractive in terms of sharpness and light on the petals than the left. I also like the way you've handled the b/g w/blur and darkened edges...that highlights the blooms quite nicely. Nice photo! (ps...I enjoyed reading your blog...I often swap out lenses in the field...but I always carry a small handkerchief to spread out under the lens ...so that it boldly can be seen ...just to avoid my leaving behind a lens, cover or filter. Glad you got yours back in such fine shape!!)

Very nice composition. The two poppies add balance to the composition. I recently saw and photographed my first prickly poppy, so I was excited to see this flower again. The poppies are sharp, and your background is very nice. Great job.

Lovely take on these twins, Angela  . Like seeing the paper like texture on the petals always.

Angela,

I like the poppies, particularly the composition and the whites mgt. I've been trying to decide whether I'd darken the stems in the lower right and possibly clone out the leaves on the lower left. I think I would darken the bright spots on the stems on the right but I don't know about the leaves. I like the light and the mood of this. Very nice capture.

30 different wildflowers?! Oh! that k-i-l-l-s me, Angela! This is a good shot with nice whites in bright light. Love the tangly stems; makes a fun design.

Angela: One of my favorite wildflowers and an image that brings back fond memories for me. I got my first Flora EP with an almost identical shot many years ago. My only suggestion would be to clean up the dirt speck on the petal on the left flower. I like the comp and lighting and your whites. Well done. >=))>
