Cold Silence

Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand

At the last moment, I decided to cross over to the middle of the river for a different perspective at sunset. Unfortunately that meant wet boots for the next few days which was very annoying. Once I found myself in the middle of the glacial run off, I struggled to find a composition but I think the last exposure here might have made it borderline worthwhile.

Canon 5DMkII, 16-35mm 2.8L, ISO 100, f9, 5 minutes, GND filter.

Hi Kah

Very good use of cold tones to give an impressive atmosphere to us, including those dynamic clouds. Maybe the mountains of the middle ground are a little bit dark but the GND was necessary

Best regards

Slightly too much blue for my tastes but the composition is very strong and it's got loads of atmosphere.

I love the deep narcotic blues. It's like I woke from a sedated lithium dream. I think this image is amazing. I see it presented in a dark room with a solo light . Well done my friend :toast:

Love the shapes drawn by the shadows and highlights here KK. A very moody scene. Great work as always.

Love it Kah Kit. I love the darker moody scenes like this. Almost eerie.

However I have not seen them translate so well into print. Maybe under just the right lighting conditions.

It's all been said, I love the feel of it Kah Kit. Like the way you can differentiate the peaks from closest to furthest too.

Thanks for the comments guys. It will be interesting to see how it prints, given the overall darkness. Roberto, the midground mountain is naturally dark, not due to GND use as none of the other mountains are affected. Sometimes this darker mountain is distracting but in this case I think the bold triangle gives the shot more of a focal point to draw the eye to.

I really like these dark images you've been producing lately. The larger version is awesome. I'd love to see the full sized image. Great job.

Very moody and mysterious with the dark feel and cool blue tones. I like it Kah! And the long exposure for the sky really adds the final touches for me.

I heard you were at ICPA, bummer I was not able to make it, would have been nice to meet you and winnie. Hope you guys have a good time here if you are doing any other travels while in the area.

Kah Kit,

This nearly has that distinct look of..... Velvia! The blu-ish purple coloration is classic. Now normally I'm the first to point out the blues and look to reduce them, but I'm with many others here in that the color is working very well for me and does indeed enhance the mood and atmosphere; as does the darker presentation.

I'd definitely say worth the wet boots (easy for me to say of course.)

The rich blues and deep blacks give this image a great mood. I'm not normally a fan of cloud movement during long exposures, but it really works well here. Well worth the cold feet IMO. :toast:
