We have a hugh Saguaro in our front yard, and this little bird is there every night. After looking at the image on my computer, I realized I should have used a smaller aperture to help with the sharpness of the bird. I was shooting up.

Nikon D90
F5.6
ISO400
Focal length 300mm
7:19 p.m.
hand-held

Thank you for looking.

Nice shot of the bird in the nest. Good exposure, larger image looks sharper to me than the smaller. Thanks for sharing.

Too bad its a House Sparrow instead of a native woodpecker or owl.

It looks like the focus was on the cactus above the cavity rather than on the bird; I don't think this was an aperture issue (although f/11 would have helped a little if you had enough shutter speed).

I would agree with Richard's comments about the focus point being off vs. an aperture issue. If possible I would likely have tried to put the subject off center, personal preference. Do you use your center focal point and then recompose with focus lock?

An interesting image, Laura. I agree a little more DOF would have helped.

Cool shot Laura, I can't tell for sure but I would check where your focus point was in the original to see if it was on the bird or whether you just needed more depth of field. :toast:
