Nice action freeze and pose. I also like the colors, especially the bright feet. Well done!

Wow Ronnie! How the **** do you get all that DOF with an 850mm on f6.7??

Caught at the precise right moment and framing +color +bg +everything else (even the 4 water droplets frozen in space-time!)

Did you pre-focus just behind the perch, manual focus or let the AF do follow-focus on the bird?

Congratulations!

Hi Antonio,
Thanks for the comment. That aperture of 6.7 is actually wide open. F/4 lens with 1.5 stop loss with the 1.7 teleconverter.
I tracked the bird in, did not prefocus. He was on another perch about 20 feet away. I had the camera focused on him and when he flew I just held the shutter and did my best to just keep him in the frame.

Excellent capture Ronnie. One question...how do you get them to fly to you? They always fly away from me  Very sharp, great colors...no nits from me, just a nice shot!

I agree these are hard to capture inflight. You've done a great job here. Sharpness, DOF, lighting all superb. Really good job on this one, Ronnie.

Epic Ronnie. I think you must have a fish scent on your truck. And to be able to pan while on the edge of a car window sill on a bean bag....WOW. I too am stunned by your depth of field at wide open aperature. Phenominal Ronnie. I need to practice, practice, practice. Thanks for sharing this one Ronnie. :toast: :toast:

Hi Luc,
I have all my images posted on pbase.com. Pbase extracts all the data and it shows under the image. I just copy and paste from pbase. Then I alter the text data to give more detail.
Like on this image.

Before posting on NPN I rework every image I have on pbase. My pictures on pbase are mostly processed rather quickly. For NPN images I reprocess giving more attention to detail and color rendition.

Great frozen action and nice control of the bg, BB! Those waxy water lilies can be a challenge. Getting a take off is one thing,,,,,these guys' body language almost always gives it away. But a landing is a different thing altogether. Killer shot! :toast:
