To a Wild Rose & repost

Another "studio" shot. "To a Wild Rose..." a piece I played on the piano when I was 9 years old...came to mind. Viveza, and NIK midnight filter applied.
Canon 50D
Tamron 28-300 mm
6 sec, f18

Edit...in looking at this, I should have left a bit more room or added canvas at the top...

It works for me Kathy, very nice light and color, and I like the touch of yellow on the inner petals. Beautiful work.

Reposting - the perfectionist in me wanted more space at the top....

I think the room at the top helps. I can see the line where you added it, in the new file, but I think you can clean that up easily. I like the color of the flower. Very nice portrait Kathy.

Kathy, I like the repost. You did well to add canvas at the top  - Nice Rose and Good Lighting.

Kathy,

I like the light and the mood of this. Compositionally it would feel more natural to me to have more room to the viewer's left - and the top as you already mentioned. I might also consider brightening the leaf on the viewer's right a little. I guess where I'm rally going is I'd be inclined to move the canvas to the viewer's left and the rose to the viewer's right in the canvas. My two cents. (smile)

The repost works great.

Kathy: Wonderful lighting and colors in the rose. I do give the nod to the repost but for my tastes a bit less addition would work better. I almost second Pat's comment about the positioning in the frame but the unconventional placement here works very well for me. Very nicely done.>=))>

The second one is much better. I like the soft light and the excellent contrast to BG. Very well done Kathy.

In retrospect, I should have done a horizontal flip, since the eye reads left to right, and then added space to look into. I appreciate eveyone's comments. I like when I've learned from what I've posted. I may still play around with this one...

Have you tried just a little more room at the top (maybe about halfway between the original and the repost) and making the composition square? So many of these choices are individual and subjective. This is a very nice image, regardless. The lighting and dof are beautiful.
