I recently found that there are Brown Pelicans here in Virginia! I am from Washington State, and they pass through occasionally, but I have rarely had an opportunity to photograph them. So, off to the coast I went, and I found some at Kiptopeke State Park.

Olympus ZD 300 f2.8 w/2x
ISO 640

Comments and critiques welcome. Thanks.

Mike you got them here in really nice light. Love a angle of view with good eye contact wish you could see a little more of the outside wing but thats a minor nit. Nice job.

Nice sharp image, IMHO the left wing seems a bit distorted almost as if the tip of the wing is missing. Just the angle I am sure. Thanks for posting.

Mike, I like the interesting light on the pelican and the whites and sharpness look quite good. I'd love a chance at this species.

Another great Olympus shot Mike
I have friends who live in Beacon Hill near Leesburg, we'll look for pelicans next time I visit them.

Wonderful flight shot, Mike. I really like the BG color; it has an "early morning" feel about it.
