Blue Embers

When has anyone ever wished there was more black silty dirt on their subject? The moment I saw this ice, I pictured a charred log in the remnants of a fire still glowing with heat...only glowing blue instead of orange. In the end, I think there might have been too much ice showing through to fully realize/share my vision. The title has to tip viewer's minds in the right direction.

Fascinating! It almost looks like a sideways tree trunk what with the structure and all. I see where you're going with the embers too. Very unique and intriguing abstract. The large circle grabs my attention a lot, but it does provide a solid anchor.. though I wonder what a comp would look like with it, if it was/is possible?

That's pretty trippy Kent. I'm still trying to get my mind around it. The turquoise color is amazing. I'll be looking at this for awhile.

Very nice, Kent. I would like to see one without the blue chunk of ice, a more uniform design would look nicer I think. Regardless, a really unique and interesting shot that was well executed.

Gosh I didn't know what to expect on this one. I like it, its different. Shows a creative eye and it's really bizarre that this dirt on ice. Weird combo but I think it works.
Pretty neat

You guys know I love to dispute critiques. It's about the exchange of ideas, right? I think I could have isolated a section of ice where the large (softball size) open circle of ice (a concave portion with no silt) was not in the photo. I never had any intention of doing that. Yes, it demands attention in the photo, as it demanded my attention when I discovered this spot. In a full size version, there's plenty of beautiful, intricate detail in that hole to warrant all the attention it gets.

Thanks for all your comments, thoughts, and ideas. I really do appreciate all of them.

Kent,
You've done a lot of cool work with ice, and this is no exception. Very nice abstract.

This is one of the most abstract, almost surreal, abstract ice images I've seen. Fascinating and coldly beautiful with those deep blacks and the incredible blues. The oval area of ice really anchors this to me from a compositional point of view. Excellent, superb work.

Wonderful abstract. I can't even imagine the real subject . . . or that there is ice here. I sort of see the log . . . I think . . . but please don't tell me anything more. Just let me enjoy this and keep guessing.

Beautiful. I can't even tell it's ice but I don't care. It's just a beautiful abstract.

I like the fact that I am mesmerized by this image. I really can't tell what it is, but what I know is that the color is unique and blows me away.

To be honest, i like the subject, but this doesnt really grab me. Im obviously in the minority there, so i wouldnt worry about it, the abstraction here is just a bit too much for my mood right now--maybe ill like it more tomorrow
EDIT: i just read Floris comment, and he touches on part of the problem for me--the large 'orb' pulls my attention there, and when i realize that the surrounding material doesnt offer anything substantially more than the center thing, it leaves me wondering why place the 'orb' so prominently. Well, ive certainly spent enough time staring at this, so at least youve kept my attention!
EDIT, EDIT  I keep coming back to this--so i guess i like it more than i originally thought!
