Yellow-Eyed Penguins

This is one of my only avian images and I thought I would post it as it was pleasing at least to me as a landscape photographer. I was photographing seascapes in New Zealand one evening when these (endangered) penguins made an appearance. The landscape itself is also unique, once being a forest but now a seabed made of petrified wood.

Canon 5DMkII, 300mm 4L IS, ISO 800, f5.6, 0.4s, tripod. Cropped about 20% off.

Nice image, like the poses you've captured, looks like quite low light so you've done well to capture them as sharply as you have.

Wonderful capture and fascinating explanation. I'd never expect to see a penguin sitting on a tree. Great composition :toast:

Great shot Kah Kit! I am always amazed with your diversity as a photographer and find your images to always have a "real" quality to them which I sometimes find lacking in my own. Great job as always!

Tough exposure well done, and nice detail for such a slow shutterspeed. Good work!

The landscape surrounding the birds really sets the mood and makes the birds really stand out. Outstanding shot of both the beauty and behavior.

Kah Kit,

I like the poses of the penquins, the colors of the birds and the dark background. I like that you gave us information too on the location, It must have been a very pleasant surprise when the penquins came into the scene!

Killer shot, particularly the poses. They stand out nicely against the background, and their coloration is striking.

This is off the chart! The colorful birds just pop out against the dark bg. Magnificent!

Stunning image! My only suggestion would be a slight crop from the right, leaving the birds dead centre.

Magic hour for sure. This is beautiful Kah! I love everything about it. The lighting creates a mood that is perfect for these two lovers.
