Over Easy (Prickly Poppy)

I am not sure what this flower is called, but it reminded me of an over easy egg. This was my first attempt at shooting on manual mode. I focused on the center of the flower. Normally when I use the widest aperture on my lens (f5.6) my background is still too busy, so I do like how this background is soft. I was disappointed the flower was not totally sharp. Comments always appreciated.

You shouldn't be disappointed. It has much more character than if the whole flower were sharp. It isn't perfect (very few are) but it's very nice. The colors are great.

Laura, this image looks like you spent a lot of time making Photo Art and it turned out very beautifully! The name is just terrific.

There's something about this that I really like. Unfortunately I wish to not see the bud in back as well as the one on the right side. I think the image would be much stronger without the two. Just an opinion. I think the light is great as well.I agree, looks like you spent some time on it and I much prefer that the flower is not all in focus. makes for a better macro image IMO. Nice job

Ah, now I know what it is! It reminds me of a Flamenco dancer. Even has castanets.

I think the overall softness works extremely well here. Very dreamy.

Laura:
I think you are too hard on yourself. The center of the flower is perfectly sharp and I like how the petals are slight soft with motion blurred - really adds interest more than a perfectly sharp ones. The BG is of course sweet. :toast:

Very well executed Laura, Composition is perfect.along with DOF.I really like how the buds perfectly wrap around the center pbloom. The brokeh achieved is to die for. As a thought/alternative I might try a square crop.

I find this very appealing Laura, It reminds me of some old flower paintings my mother had years ago, I like this very much, and I think you did a beautiful job.

Lovely. The bg is blurred just enough, allowing for motion throughout the image.

Hi Laura :wavey: I to love the background. The colors and light are alluring. And the flower is sharp enough to make for an excellent presentation.

This image has a certain look about it which I find very appealing, and the focus is well placed. It might be even stronger without the bud in the back of the flower

Hi Laura. Believe this is a tree peony... and a beautiful presentation of it. Nice mood and feel. I like the buds surrounding the flower because your choice of comp gives it depth and the lighting adds the mood. Well done indeed! :toast:

I appreciate that the flower is not fully sharp. The soft image is emotive and dreaming. I like very much also the elegant, dancing, light attitude of the poppy. I lave the photo, Laura.
Take care.

Laura: I love prickly poppies and liked this even from the thumbnail. I really like your POV and plane of focus. Wonderful image. >=))>
