Common Grackle in juniper. I know we see these guys everywhere, but somehow I liked the setting and the harmony of background colors.

Well, there're not in AZ (except 2-3 confirmed in my 16 years here). But coming from NJ I know what you mean.

This is excellent, and unlike any other shot I can recall of the species.

Lon,,,,it may be a common bird but they are very difficult to capture well. The soft light helped to bring out the subtle color and detail here. Very nice.

They may be everywhere - but it's not easy to capture their beauty and get a nice natural setting like you did here. I would like a little more light on the eye, but the iridescence is quite strong in this photo which helps a lot.

Well........not everywhere Lon, don't see them where I live. Regardless, this Grackle looks as good as the rarest bird on the continent the way you have presented it here. Can't say much more. :toast:

A beautiful piece of art Lon. The colors and light are so pretty and you made the "common" stand out

If you just focus on the beauty and behavior of grackles and not on how common they are, they are one of the coolest birds out there. Extremely well done. :toast:

Hah, great grackle Lon!! I didn't even know what one was a month ago, and have had some decent photos, but this is above and beyond. Juniper... hmmm, a gin & grackle w/ a twist?? :toast:

Love the exposure on your Grackle shot Lon! I think it is so much harder to take a common subject and make it interestiung and look uncommon. I think you accomplished that. Nice work!

Really like the complementary colours and detail. Do you have any more room below the tail?

cheers

Exceptional light, exposure and detail on this grackle Lon and I really like the perch too. If I had framed this I might have given the tail a few more pixels of room at bottom - not a nit, just my preference. Very well done!

A beautiful looking bird, they may be common to you so if you could spare a few send them over to the UK! The detail looks great and the habitat very natural. You're right Lon the colours blend very well together making this a lovely image. Graham

Common bird, but a rare photo that captures so nicely the non-flamboyant beauty of the bird. :toast:

Excellent shot and the composition frames the grackle very well, the larger version was a pleasure to view, way to go.
