Black-throated Gray Warbler

Canon 7D, 500mm +1.4x, monopod

1/1000, f/5.6, ISO 320, -1/3 EC

Crop to 46% (8.3 of 18MP)

Spent and hour or so yesterday morning trying to get some shots of these Black-throated Gray Warblers. This is the best I got--some good details and the eye stands out well, just wish the bird had been a little larger in the frame.

Comments and critiques appreciated. Please view larger version if possible.

I'd be thrilled to get this. They are too high, too hidden or to fast for me when they pass through the Valley.

I think he's just right in the frame. A beauty and a wonderful capture. Congrats. Sharon

They are diminutive birds in life, so well pictured here. Excellent job.

What a gorgeous looking bird. The separation from the background is exquisite and you got surprisingly nice DOF with the f/5.6

I would be very happy with this Brian. Fast and tiny does not equate to easy. It gives me that feeling of early morning in a pine forest with warblers. Not a commonly posted species at all. :toast:

Lovely composition, it looks very natural. Exposure and control of the detail is excellent which has stood up well to the crop. Graham

I like this very much Brian. For me, your DOF is just perfect with most everything sharp on the foreground and nicely OOF behind, with nothing inbetween. Really makes the bird stand out. The challenging exposure looks quite good and I think the 7D did you proud with the 46% crop. Really nice.

A very nice shot of a spooky, skulky little bird. I've never seen them at eye level, only in treetops.

Brian,
Great details, exposure, and I really like the perch. Natural environment! Nicely done. Dave

Brian,

I like the size of the bird in the frame, the background, light in the warbler's eye and the nice light. I would be happy with this shot. Well done.
