Short-eared Owl

Haven't posted in months, so thought I would post one of Cindy's favorites from a drive this morning. Blizzard here last Friday gave us 1 foot of snow locally and 2 to 4 feet in the local mountains. Locally, the snow melted, but some people are still without power in some of the back country because of the 60mph gusting winds that came with the storm. More snow last night and it is snowing right now. The white in the photo is leftover snow from last night - it was warm enough to melt most of it. Fairly dark and overcast where this was shot with snow showers going through. Had a lot going on early in the year, so didn't do much birding.

Great image with piercing eyes - I think the composition works well. Sorry about the snow.

Incredible eyes! Great detail throughout and well composed. The snow is a bit unfortunate

I love these owls, and I don't understand how you are able to photograph them so well and so consistently. Great photo, David. :toast:

Love those incredible eyes. Very well composed. A smashing shot as is, though I'd be curious to know the reason for stopping down to f9. A larger aperture would have allowed for an even more creamy background perhaps?

What a look the owl is giving you, excellent feather detail, the larger image was a pleasure to view, well done.

Very nice, Dave. And I was complaining about rain and 40 mph winds! I think I'll take our climate. Excellent detail and I really like the way the snow and greenery created that mottled bg. :toast:

Very nice, especially given the short focal length used here. I'd be quite happy with this.
