D90, 300f4 plus kenko 1.4x, iso 400, f8, 1/200, natural light on cloudy day. Backyard blind, set up perch.
Bluebird on a stick. This is taken with the kenko 1.4 teleconverter. I think it does a decent job but there is a small but noticeable drop in IQ with the teleconverter.
All comments are appreciated. Constructive criticism invited.

Dan, this is tack-sharp thrpughout, so I can't imagine any loss of sharpness with the Kenko.
Beautiful bird, nice pose, great eye, simple perch and non-distracting BG.

I agree with Sandy on the IQ. And everything else. The only thing I see is the eye looks differant in the large version. The eye looks better in the small version? Otherwise I love it.

This looks great to me, Dan. The pose of the bird, background, detail and sharpness are excellent. The faint blue color on the breast is a nice fine point. I guess we can always ask for even greater detail, no matter what the image. However, I don't see any real problem with image quality here. Very beautiful bird too. :toast:

Dan, the IQ difference might show up at larger sizes, but I think that everything I see here looks great. Hard to find much to criticize here--you are the bluebird master. I suppose if I was to pick nits, since it is a set up perch, I'd like it if it stood out a little better from the bg--the colors sort of merge in some spots. Certainly another beautiful bluebird image. :toast:

A wonderful capture of this stunning bird. It brings back memories of the first one I saw in Yosemite NP. Thought it was "electric blue." This image does the same. Great job.

Hi Dan,
You are certainly getting some beautiful Bluebird shots in your backyard. Nice to not have to travel to get them....especially considering our weather lately. As for my Shorties....mostly persistence and luck. I look for them a lot, and they don't cooperate much of the time. When I do find a willing subject, I talk to him and thank him when I am done...... Keep up the good work out there in the shadow of the Snowies.

Very nice image - the color on these birds is always a treat to see.

Any converter will reduce the overall quality, but your results here are still quite good.
