I Know There Is A Clam Here Somewhere

This is a shot of a three year old cub searching for clams on the tidal flats. I was amazed at how deep they dig to get clams. The old backlight plague is again apparent in this image.

10D 100-400 IS @ 400. Partial metering at ISO 200. 1/60 @ f8. Levels and USM applied. Pretty much full frame.

As usual any and all comments and input are both welcome and appreciated

Nice catch. I've never seen this in person, I sure would like to. Amazing how much energy they will spend to get something that is relatively small. I think you did good on this considering the conditions.

Very nice behaviour shot, Ed. As you mention, it's a pity the bg is so bright, but you did a great job on exposing the bear and certainly worth keeping. Did you manage to get any shot with the clam?

Hi Ed,
the unusual pose and the behavioural aspect create an intersting, eye-catching shot.

I think you handled the exposure well, and the behavior carries the shot anyway.

Another nice one, Ed. You really had some great opportunities to see various behavior [that I don't get to see]. This one could use a little sharpening I think. I know you were dealing with flat, overcast light, but I wonder if some of these images could be improved by playing with the Color Balance and "warming" the images, and possibly playing with Saturation.

You certainly did bring back a LOT of excellent poses on these guys, Ed..! I love the "butt in the air" on this one!! It could use another swipe of usm I think...but that's the only nit here..

Wow! Thank you very much Michael. I have enjoyed posting images and the critiques I have received. Over the last year I have learned a lot from our fellow NPN members and completely enjoyed the experience.

To have one of my images selected as an "Editor's Pick" is not only an honor it is a great surprise.

Thank you again.
