"duck"ling weed

I almost didn't do any photography afternoon because the skies became overcast and the ocean was a foggy cold mess but I was encouraged when I found a Snowy Egret at a nearby park and thought I'd try Quogue Wildlife Refuge for more sundew but once I got there I found these 8 ducklings and their mother and couldn't resist. I followed them alone a pond edge across some paths and into a small man-made pond barely big enough for the family of 9. I switched between my 300 f/4 and my 105 f/2.8 + 1.7X TC to get the highest SS possible as the skies were really overcast so f/4 had to be used to get a sharp enough SS for these little motor boat birds who were so close I could have plucked them out of the water if I'd wanted. I'm posting this in macro/closeup because it's about as close as you'll get to one.

(The title is a reference to this bird eating duck weed)

Nikon D300s 300 f4
f/4
1/640s
ISO 1250 (Didn't want to push it any further)

About 75% of full frame, a few minor cloned out OOF water droplets, minimal noise reduction on the BG, NO noise reduction on the ducklings head.

Well done! Love the way the water is coming out or going in the beak!
