Portage Glacier 1983

This is one of the first of 3 film images I posted on NPN and is one of my top 5 favorites of my own work. This is Portage Glacier near Anchorage and it was taken in 1983 with my Mamiya 645 and Ektachrome film during my 2nd trp to Alaska. Vance G. mentioned (when I first posted it) that this view of the glacier is barely visible from this vantage point now ..... which makes more important to me.

I can see why it is one of your favourites. Definitely more ice than when I was there a few years ago, though it's still a beautiful area even with the glacier out of sight.

These kind of backlit scenes can be extremely difficult to shoot because of the dynamic range but you did an excellent job on this one, Eva! The detail and texture of the ice is excellent!

I love the blue ice against the near b+w background. The comp has a nice diagonal flow from LL to UR.

Loved this when you first posted it and I think I enjoy this image even more, Eva. The play of light on the water and the icebergs, the blue tones of the ice, and the ever present clouds of Portage. Beautiful.
