Columbia River Color

No one may believe me, except for the workshop participant I had with me, but this is not an exaggeration of color. This was the purest color sunrise I've ever seen in the Gorge or maybe anywhere. As you might imagine, both he and I were astonished by the display of color and the way the river picked up that color. Only did some light processing in photoshop. This was early before the it got even more intense.

5D II

2 exposures, f/16, ISO 160

Anyone who knows your work would find it believable. Photographers of your caliber have a knack of being at the right place at the right time, of knowing the right season and the right weather conditions for dramatic light. This one is exceptional, as are many of your photographs.

Even though I believe you and it is real, I would still desaturate it a minor amount....Pretty increduble light! Thanks. Joe.

I did try that Joseph, but I didn't like it as well. Once you know the color is there it's hard to live without it.

This is wonderful, Zack. You were there at the right time for sure. You seldom see colors like that and lucky if you do. I once photographed a sunrise on the Wi River that was similar color to this. I felt that people would not think it was real and never really did anything with it, but it was very real. At least I got to enjoy it just as I'm doing with yours now. Beautiful image!

Wow, one of those seldom-seen spectacles where people just have to trust you, and I do. (But I think it's a good thing you used this shot instead of a later (more intense ! ??? !) one. :jump:

If it weren't for your description, I would have thought you seriously needed to calibrate your monitor. Those colors are totally radioactive. Must have been a great experience to witness this. Great scene.
