Midair Mallard

This is cropped down by probably 60% from the original, and I'm obviously not there yet with the sharpness on the bird detail, but I liked the sense of the bird hanging in midair here--actually, it may have a better feel of that in the full frame, but... And the blur just to the bird's right is grass as I moved from L to R when it took off.

D-60, will post the details shortly, thanks for looking and any comments.

Nice scene you captured here Bill, without your techs I can't give you any advice on settings. To me the oof area on the right detracts a little from the photo. Keep working on these flight shots, with practice you will get better and better. :toast:

All seriousness, thank you Nate. I appreciate the encouragement! Just got out of the woods soaking wet, get specs a bit later.

Bill you're making progress and I like the habitat in this scene. My suggestion to you (as someone who started with a D60 and 55-200mm) is to go to a local park where mallards are prevelant and that you can get quite close too. Practice your flight shots on them and you'll quickly develop skills to make a shot like this work

Yeah, Bill... I think Nate is trying to tell you something. It's a little tough to lock focus on a moving bird with all of this background stuff going on, especially in fairly low light. Practice out in the open for a while like Nate does. :toast:

I like the feel of this with the habitat and I long to know where he's headed. Sharon
